Captain's Paddock is located 8 km north of Kingaroy and has spectacular,
sweeping views across the Booie Range. It's a
specialist boutique winery
and apart from numerous wine awards is probably most famous for being the
home of Queensland's first official
Wine Dog (who's known as
Merlot and greets everyone on arrival). The principal grape varieties
grown on its estate are shiraz, chardonnay and merlot.
You can visit Captain's Paddock's combined cellar door and cafe from
10:00am to 5:00pm seven days a week. The cafe offers inexpensive
entrees, main meals and desserts as well as a children's menu. Tea, coffee
and soft drinks are also available. The cafe can cater for up to 45
people and can be booked for special functions.
Captains Paddock also run special Grape Adventure Tours at
9:30am every Saturday and Sunday morning (or by request
- bus groups are very welcome). For $5 per head, visitors get to learn about
different grape varieties; the life-cycle of grape-growing and harvesting;
and the science that lies behind making spectacular modern wines (as well
as do a little first-hand sampling too!)
You can also stay overnight in Captain's Paddock Cottage if you wish.
The Cottage overlooks the estate and tariffs start at $100 per couple (which
includes a continental breakfast - a full cooked country-style breakfast
is available for an extra $10 per head).
