Whistle Stop Wines, situated in the town of Nanango on the corner of Elk St and Highway 17, is one of the latest cellar doors to open in the new vibrant South Burnett wine region. Whistle Stop Wines takes its name from the old Nanango/Kingaroy railway line that welcomed its first train in 1911 and farewelled its last in 1964. The site of the old line is adjacent to the cellar door and its location is still evident. A Heritage Railway theme is followed in the cellar with old photographs of the local railway history as well as railway memorabilia. Owners Terry and Margaret Walsh charmingly renovated the 1937 cottage that still stands in it's original position on the large corner allotment, and opened it, as their satellite cellar door on the 17th April 2004. Whistle Stop offers a selection of wines for the connoisseur both as
tastings and sales. A la Carte lunches, morning and afternoon teas and
real coffee are available in a relaxed dining area, or in a large alfresco
outdoor setting. Whistle Stop Wines is a convenient place, right on the
highway for tourists on the wine trail to stop and for locals to relax
in their leisure time Bookings for large groups and functions. |
